The former member of Parliament for Norton constituency, Temba. P Mliswa has sent a congratulatory message to the outgoing President of Botswana His Excellency President Mokgweetsi Masisi for accepting defeat in the just ended Botswana General Elections held on 30th October 2024.
In his X post Temba Mliswa articulated that if one performed badly in an electoral contest, once you concede defeat graciously you earn respect.
“Even if one performed badly in an electoral contest, once you concede defeat graciously you earn respect. Even in defeat you assume a new aura of respect that will be remembered even by those coming into power. President Masisi has done well by putting his country first,”Mliswa said.
In addition, Temba Mliswa congratulated the former opposition leader Duma Boko who sworn in as Botswana President on Friday in a swift transfer of power following elections that resulted in a historic defeat for the party that had ruled the diamond-rich nation for nearly 60 years.
“Congratulations to the incoming President too. Botswana has been a model of electoral democracy and the rule of law. No violence, no what once the people have spoken. Other countries should learn from this,” Temba added.
Botswana’s new President, Duma Boko was sworn in during a private ceremony at the chief justice’s office just three days after the elections, which led to the ousting of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
