After being arrested for allegedly threatening to kill businessman Brain Murphy, who reported a case of perjury against her, a Harare woman was brought to court on Wednesday.
Following her appearance before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi, Elizabeth Parirenyatwa Mucheche was placed under remand until Friday for a bail hearing.
She is accused of threatening to k!ll and perjury. The court heard Mucheche asserted that the late spirit medium Mbuya Nehanda was guiding her to reclaim the estate that Brian James Rhodes had taken from her.
Rufaro Chonzi, representing the state, has requested that the case be handled in accordance with the Mental Health Act.
The application was rejected by Mucheche’s attorneys. But according to Mangosi, she has to be evaluated mentally.
According to the State, Mucheche, who is not related to the deceased Brian James Rhodes and was not properly designated as an executor of the deceased’s estate, created a phony power of attorney sometime in October 2022 and claimed that Anne Rhodes had signed it.
Nevertheless, the power of attorney was executed subsequent to Anne’s passing. According to the court’s hearing on the second offense of thre@tening to k!ll the complainant, Mucheche met Murphy in July 2024 and made death threats against him after he had accused her of lying at the Highlands police station.
