Deputy Minister for Local government and Public Works Engineer Banjamin Kabikira had a last laugh after a team in his constituency Centenary ‘Yuna Yuna’ United defeated Mazowe North Member of Parliament Tsungai Makumbe’s Forester United yesterday.
The division two game was a decider on which team to qualify for play off to the division one league.
Both legislators were at Gatu stadium sponsoring and cheering their teams.
Centenary took an early lead in the first 10 minutes with a solitary strike from Tichakunda Chitsinde and they sealed their lead in 20 minutes with a venomous shot from left winger, Tonderai Muchenje.
It was all jubilation for Centenary United fans and Engineer Kabikira could be seen dancing in the crowd while MP Makumbe walked in sadness after a thrashing defeat.
Centenary United were crowned champions with 47 points while Forester United were second with 44 points.
Premier soccer league Refree Jealousy Zhuwao was the centre man and he handled the game so well.
Engineer Kabikira pledged full support and wished the team all the best to Division One league.
“I am quite happy on this achievement and this game was crucial in determining our team’s ranking in the log standing. We appreciate the level of maturity and discipline amongst the teams in conceding defeat,” Kabikira said.
“We will work tirelessly to empower these guys in their efforts towards playing in Division One. We will fully support them in terms of management and logistical prerequisites for sporting,” Kabikira added.
Meanwhile, MP Makumbe conceded defeat wishing to do better next season.
“We lost to a better team that is football and we hope to do better next time,” Makumbe said.
