Constancy Ndou, a 40-year-old woman from the Chief Sitaudze area in Beitbridge, recently found herself in legal trouble after contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.
On November 9, 2024, police detectives acted on a tip-off regarding her alleged involvement in the illicit sale of game meat.
Upon investigating, they discovered Ndou in possession of 22 bundles of meat at her residence in Dulivhadzimu.
When questioned, she could not produce any valid permits or licenses that would authorize her to transport or sell such products, leading to her immediate arrest.
The seized meat was confirmed to be from impala, with a total weight of 4,872 kilograms, which, according to assessments, holds a market value of USD 1,360.
This incident highlights ongoing issues surrounding wildlife conservation and illegal hunting practices in the region. In light of the evidence against her, the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court imposed a fine of USD 200.
Ndou was given until November 25, 2024, to pay the fine, failing which she would face three months of imprisonment.
