Taurai Sithole, 24, and Gorden Dzumbira, 46, both residents of Tazviona Village in Chipinge, recently appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawful entry following a brazen burglary.
The incident occurred on May 23, 2024, when the complainant, having left home to attend a funeral, discovered upon his return that the once-secure house had been vi0lated.
The accused managed to break through the burglar bars and unlawfully entered the residence, making off with household items valued at approximately USD150, which included essentials like paint, plates, clothes, shoes, blankets, and two distinctive Kango pots.
The case unraveled when the stolen Kango pots were traced back to a buyer named Cressy Myambo, leading to the recovery of some of the stolen goods.
The complainant was able to positively identify his belongings among those recovered, which amounted to a value of USD110.
However, the remainder of the stolen items, unfortunately, remained missing.
After deliberation, the court handed down a 12-month prison sentence to the accused.
However, four months of that sentence were suspended for a period of five years, allowing for some leniency.
Additionally, the court stipulated that ten days of imprisonment would be suspended contingent upon the accused making restitution of USD20 to the complainant.
