In a sh0cking incident from the Musane area under Chief Tshitaudze in Beitbridge, a 36-year-old man was sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison for r_ping a 22-year-old woman at knife point.
The man initially pleaded not guilty when he appeared before regional magistrate Ms. Charity Maphosa, but was ultimately convicted based on strong evidence presented by the State.
On the night of October 20, the young woman was asleep in her b3droom, completely unaware that her neighbor was lurking nearby.
Around 3 am, the man entered her home through an open window, escalating the situation into a terrifying ordeal for the victim.
After spotting him, the woman turned over in bed, but her resistance was met with violence as he brandished a knife. In a chilling threat, he placed the blade against her stomach, warning her that any further defiance would lead to de_dly consequences.
Overwhelmed by fear, the woman was forced to comply, and the assailant r_ped her while still holding the knife as a means of coercion.
Following the horrific encounter, he fled the scene through the same window, leaving the victim traumatized and alone. In the aftermath, the woman bravely confided in a neighbor, who immediately took her to Makhado Police Station to report the crime.
The authorities acted swiftly, launching a thorough investigation that ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution laid out a compelling case, demonstrating the brutal nature of the crime and the victim’s courage in speaking out.
