The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has released a public notice addressing churches regarding their tax obligations and announcing an upcoming stakeholder engagement to discuss compliance issues.
The purpose of the meeting is to foster transparency and ensure that churches adhere to relevant tax regulations. Further details regarding the date and location of the event will be provided in due course.

ZIMRA emphasized that income generated from donations, tithes, offerings, and non-trading receipts is exempt from income tax.
However, any income derived from trading activities, including the sale of church-branded merchandise, books, or food, is subject to taxation and may incur Value Added Tax (VAT) if sales surpass certain thresholds.
To avoid penalties, churches are encouraged to register for taxes, promptly file any outstanding returns, and ensure that all taxes are paid in full. To facilitate compliance, ZIMRA has established self-service centers throughout the country to offer assistance.
