Zimbabwe’s second largest hospital, Mpilo Central has received a donation of US$150,000 worth of cancer medicines from the leading financial institution CABS Zimbabwe in partnership with TM Pick n Pay. The handover ceremony was held on 18th of December 2024 in Bulawayo.
Newsreportzim.com has learnt from a twitter post that CABS Zimbabwe and TM Pick n Pay have joined hands together to donate cancer medicines at Mpilo Central Hospital.
“Today, 18 December, 2024, CABS and TM Pick n Pay handed over a total of USD150,000 worth of cancer medicines to Mpilo Central Hospital, in Bulawayo. We are proud to be united for a cause, working together to make a difference in the fight against cancer!,” the post reads
The donation come at the time Zimbabwe cancer patients have been facing challenges in accessing treatment because of a critical shortage of madicine in hospitals. According to experts, cancer is set to overtake HIV and Aids as the leading cause of de@th in the country.
In many cases, the disease is diagnosed late, and with very few oncologists in public hospitals, most cancer patients lose their lives prematurely.
According to the Health and Child Care ministry, cancer remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality with over 5 000 new cases diagnosed and over 1 500 de@ths per year.
