Former Cabinet minister, Hon. Dr walter Mzembi has expressed his backing for outspoken war veterans’ leader, Blessed Geza, who came out to challenge President Mnangagwa and his allies pushing for constitutional ammendment which will extend President’s tenure beyond 2028.
Mzembi was the minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry during the late long-ruling Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe’s time.
The former minister’s sentiments come in the wake of rising tensions within the ruling party ZANU PF, with the Geza-led war veterans accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa of being bent on disregarding the Constitution by wishing to extend his tenure beyond 2028.
Via his social media X (formerly known as twitter), Walter Mzembi posted the following:
“The current conflict inside Zanu PF is over the intention to change our Constitution and create a Life State Presidency , it is not limited to this Party but it is a National issue because the Constitution is the Supreme Law of our country . The changes are being initiated by a Party but will assume national character that will affect everyone regardless of party affiliation.
“Therefore disseminating messaging that says leave Zanu PF to fight it out alone is politically daft ; in defence of our Constitution people should takes sides conscious of the fact that before change happens nationally it starts in Zanu PF.
