In a daring operation, members of the National Anti-Corruption of Zimbabwe (NACAZ) apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing state property, specifically Police Ahead Stop Signs, on March 31, 2025.
At approximately 20:22 hours, three NACAZ members on duty were traveling along the Harare-Mutare highway when they spotted two black male adults walking towards Rusape. One of the individuals was carrying a Police Ahead Stop Sign, raising suspicions among the NACAZ team. They quickly made a U-turn and followed the suspects, who attempted to flee but were eventually caught.
The NACAZ members then escorted the accused, Correct Pasiparowa and Bernard Mbundire, to Nyazura shops, where they handed them over to Sergeant Mhembere and his team of seven police officers who were manning a roadblock along Mutare – Harare highway. During interrogation, it was discovered that the suspects did not reside in Nyazura, with one claiming to be from Chief Nyashanu’s area in Buhera, while the other claimed to be staying in Penhalonga.
A docket for theft of state property was opened at ZRP Nyazura, with reference number RRB 6201881. National Anti-Corruption of Zimbabwe’s Assistant Deputy Director Operations, Mr. Alvine Makufa, confirmed the arrest, while referring further questions to Assistant Inspector Chinyoka, the ZRP spokesperson for Manicaland Province.
This successful operation by NACAZ is a testament to their dedication to supporting the government’s efforts in combating crime and corruption. Their vigilance and quick thinking foiled the suspects’ plans, potentially preventing further criminal activity.
As the country grappled with anticipated demonstrations, the NACAZ members demonstrated their commitment to maintaining law and order, even in the face of challenging circumstances. Their actions serve as a reminder that the fight against corruption and crime requires collective effort and vigilance.
