A tragic plane crash in Mashava has claimed the lives of six people.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when a RioZim flight crashed in the Zvamahande area of Mashava.The small aircraft was traveling from Harare to Murowa Diamonds when the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to source, the plane, suspected to have developed a mechanical fault, crashed, resulting in the deaths of all passengers and the pilot on board.
Among the deceased were five passengers and the pilot, who died on the spot.
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, seeking to determine if it was due to mechanical failure or human error.
Sometime in February this year, five people survived by a hair’s breadth when the plane they were aboard crash-landed near Harare.
The Piper 31 Navajo aircraft, belonging to RZM Murowa (Private Limited), had a near-catastrophic crash in Muriwai Farm.
The light plane, which had five passengers aboard, was carrying diamonds owned by mining giant, Murowa (Private) Limited.The diamonds were being transported from the company’s Zvishavane mine to its Harare head office.
It was reported that the five passengers were pulled out of the wreckage by locals with the help of the farm owner, who rushed them to Beatrice Hospital for treatment.
They were later transferred to a medical facility in Harare.Engine failure was suspected to have caused the plane to crash.
At that time, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that they were working with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe to determine what prompted the plane to crash.
