Lewis Matutu, a former Zanu PF youth leader, has found himself in a bit of a pickle. A warrant of arrest has been issued against him for failing to show up in court for his fraud trial. It seems Matutu and his accomplices hatched a plan to steal shares from a mining company, Shisib Investments, and allotted themselves majority shares.
The alleged scam involved preparing annual returns with forged signatures, backdating them to 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The goal was to deceive the registrar of companies into believing that the shareholding structure and directorship of Shisib Investments had changed. As a result, the complainant, Joseph Sibanda, was prejudiced of US$150,000.
The offence came to light when the department of Parks and Wildlife received instructions from Matutu and his accomplices to suspend mining operations, claiming they had agreed to sell the mining claim. It was then that Sibanda discovered the alleged scam and realized he had been ousted from his own company.
Matutu and his accomplices, Blessing Kusangaya, Tafadzwa Kusangaya, Muzimba Muhamba, and Chisakwa Muhamba, are accused of working together to commit the fraud. They allegedly used the illegally acquired shares to attend an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and remove Sibanda from directorship of the company.
Matutu’s failure to appear in court has earned him a warrant of arrest. The question on everyone’s mind is: where is he hiding? Will he try to sweet-talk his way out of this one, or will he finally face the consequences of his actions?
The National Prosecuting Authority is continuing its investigation into the matter. It’s likely that more charges will be laid against Matutu and his accomplices. The case has sparked widespread interest, with many calling for justice to be served.
Will Matutu face justice, or will he manage to wriggle out of this predicament? The outcome of this case will have far-reaching implications for the business community and beyond. One thing’s for sure – the eyes of the nation are on this high-profile case.
