A disturbing incident unfolded on Saturday, June 14, 2025, when three women from Chitungwiza escaped from a sangoma’s shrine in Goromonzi, allegedly after being subjected to a traumatic experience. Pamela Bako, Shillah Mabvudzi, and Talent claimed they were taken to a cleansing ceremony by Sekuru Sinaro, where they were given herbs and forced to participate in a ritual that left them feeling vulnerable and frightened.
According to Pamela, the women were fed herbs on a mountain, which made them feel dizzy. They were then taken to a dark room, where Sekuru’s helpers tried to force them to be intimate with them .
The women alleged that Sekuru Sinaro’s aides attempted to restrain them, claiming that the sangoma had enough money to pay for their rentals. The situation escalated, and the women fled the shrine in the dead of night, naked and in fear for their lives.
Pamela described the experience as “horrible and frightening,” while Shillah recounted her ordeal to Apostle Blessed Mugwambeni, a church leader who took her in and later escorted her to a police station. However, the police station’s response was inadequate, with male officers refusing to accommodate Shillah due to the lack of female officers on duty.
When contacted for comment, Sekuru Sinaro confirmed the incident, claiming that the women had experienced some “visuals” during the cleansing ceremony. He alleged that two of the women returned the following morning, but one did not. Sekuru Sinaro also claimed that the women were experiencing sex nightmares.
The incident raises concerns about the safety and legitimacy of some sangomas, and the need for greater accountability and regulation in the traditional healing industry.
