ZANU PF’s Vehicle Vacation: “Hand Over Your Ride, Comrade”

ZANU PF’s Vehicle Vacation: “Hand Over Your Ride, Comrade”

In a move that’s either genius or utterly bonkers, ZANU PF has decided it’s time to round up all the party-branded vehicles roaming around Zimbabwe. Why, you ask? Well, apparently, the party wants to get its house in order and make sure all its assets are properly registered and managed.

In a memo that’s equal parts confusing and hilarious, Secretary-General Obert Mpofu has instructed all party members and supporters to surrender their vehicles – yes, you read that right, their vehicles – to the party by July 31, 2025. This includes cars donated by well-wishers to individual party members, party organs, and structures without the necessary validation from the big cheeses in the party.

We’re not sure what’s more astonishing – the fact that ZANU PF thinks it can just collect all these vehicles like they’re going out of style or the fact that party members will actually comply with this directive. Either way, it’s going to be a wild ride.

According to Mpofu, this exercise is all about regularising the use and registration of motor vehicles donated in the party’s name. Because, you know, party assets are party assets, and nobody wants any funny business going on with those.

So, if you’re a ZANU PF member with a party-branded vehicle, it’s time to bid farewell to your trusty-  ride – at least, until the party decides to give it back. And if you’re a well-wisher who’s donated a vehicle to a party member, you might want to start wondering where your gift ended up.

All in all, this is shaping up to be a fascinating exercise in party discipline and asset management. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story
