A HARARE man offered US$10 per month maintenance for his minor child, saying responsibilities should be equally shared with his ex-wife.
Morgan Kudakwashe was taken to the Harare Civil Court by his ex-wife, Tsitsi Njera, who accused him of child neglect and demanded US$40.
“I’m not employed and my only source of income is US$90 which I get from renting out two rooms. I use that money to pay utility bills and buy groceries.
“We shouldac share responsibilities rather than burdening one person when we were both involved in the baby making process,” Morgan said.
Tsitsi said Morgan had to take responsibility since the prices of basic commodities had gone up.
“I’m not accepting the offer. He rents out three rooms. He buys a pack of Zapnaks and maheu then disappears for the entire term,” she said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Morgan to pay US$30 monthly plus fees directly to the school.
