Mechanic charged with theft and fraud
A MECHANIC, who filed a criminal complaint of kidnapping and theft against his client, was hauled to court yesterday charged with theft and fraud.
Panashe Karimusango was granted $100 000 bail.
The court heard that in February last year, the complainant, Sankpal Shekhar Ashokrao, took his Land Rover Discovery for repairs at Karimusango’s garage in Borrowdale.
Karimusango allegedly told Ashokrao that the engine was no longer serviceable and recommended that he buy another engine.
Ashokrao allegedly paid US$1 000 towards the purchase of an engine and was left with a balance of US$600.
In March, Ashokrao went to check on his car and discovered that the engine, gear box, registration and suspension had been removed.
When he enquired about the missing parts, Karimusango failed to account for them.
He had put the registration plates on another car.
He also renewed the insurance without Ashokrao’s permission and knowledge.
Karimusango became evasive, prompting Ashokrao to make a police report.
Ashokrao appeared in court last week charged with kidnapping and theft after Karimusango had filed a police report.
