Outgoing Masvingo Ward 2 Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Councillor Rocky Kamuzonda has withdrawn his nomination papers after filing as an independent candidate.
Kamuzonda confirmed to The Mirror that he withdrew his nomination papers on Tuesday.
He becomes the second CCC candidate after lawyer Frank Chirairo to withdraw his nomination for the ward paving way for Shantel Chiwara.
“I withdrew my nomination as an independent candidate because CCC is the only option for the hopes of the citizens. We are mobilizing people in our ward to rally behind Chiwara because she is our party candidate and we are encouraging people to vote for President Chamisa,’’ said Kamuzonda.
He withdrew his nomination at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) provincial offices.
Kamuzonda said he met with the party’s leadership and resolved to withdraw his nomination.
Chiwara is now the party’s sole candidate and will compete against Zanu PF’s Benson Hwata.
Kamuzonda, a carpenter made headlines when he was elected in the March 22, 2023 by-election after thumping Zanu PF’s candidate and businessman Taurai ‘Bucho’ Mudzviti.
