Gospel musician Mathias Mhere narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation over the weekend as he encountered a harrowing accident while en route to a show, merely 40 kilometers away from Bulawayo.
Despite nursing back and chest pains, the resilient 34-year-old artist, Mathias Mhere, persevered and proceeded with his commitment to the show.
Demonstrating his dedication, he took the stage on Sunday at the Winter Warmer Show held in Harare Gardens, alongside renowned musician Alick Macheso.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Mathias Mhere expressed his gratitude for being alive and shared the close call he had with death.
In an interview with H-Metro following his performance, Mhere acknowledged that he considers himself fortunate to have survived by the narrowest of margins.
He attributed his survival solely to the unwavering love of God, firmly believing that it was the divine reason he was still breathing.
“I think our kombi driver was dozing but we were lucky that he managed to control the vehicle when it side-swappedd the rails of a bridge, some 40 kilometers after Bulawayo.
“We were thrown all over inside the kombi but we are grateful to God that we are still alive.
“The bass guitarist is the one who was badly injured but we are really supporting him to get medication,” he said.
Mhere urged drivers to be cautious on the roads to save lives.
“We need to be cautious on the roads because a fatal accident can happen in a split second.
“That is the reason why it is called an accident,” he said.
Despite the lingering trauma from his recent accident, Mathias Mhere delivered an impeccable performance at Harare Gardens.
Sharing the stage with esteemed artists such as Alick Macheso, Pitshou Lumiere’s Diamond Musica, Dorcas Moyo, and the talented DJ Tanaman, Mhere showcased his professionalism and dedication to his craft.
