Radio and TV personality Dineo Ranaka has been receiving a lot of love and support from her fans after opening up about her mental struggles and suicidal thoughts in May. On Sunday, 2 July, the Kaya 959 breakfast show host opened up once again about her condition after disclosing last week that she has been diagnosed with severe chronic depression.
In a number of Instagram posts, Dineo shared with her fans that she has been living with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy since her mid-twenties. I’ve been living with it since my mid twenties. My episodes have gotten worse with age. It frightens me honestly.
“Imagine having seizures in your sleep. So I experience seizures in my sleep. My fear is what if I never wake up. Just so you understood It’s not my body that goes into seizure. My BRAIN has a seizure. It’s SCARY,” Dineo wrote.
According to Health Line, Temporal Lobe Epilepsy is one of 20 different kinds of epilepsy and is the most common. Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes changes in brain cell activity that result in seizures, periods of unusual behavior or feelings, and in some cases a loss of consciousness
People with this condition experience feelings of déjà-vu (familiarity) or some stomach upset – The Epilepsy Foundation says. These may be coupled with feelings of fear, panic, anxiety, a rising sensation coming from the stomach to the chest or throat, or butterflies with nausea are other common auras. Some people may sense an unusual smell.
