Sister Ros and Elder Guy Peterson,Mr Farawo the Orthopedic technician from Jairos Jiri, Mrs Elizabeth Matenga Administrator for Fundraising for Mutemwa team as well as a Trustee for John Bradburne Memorial Society UK,Bridget Mukwena member of Friends of Mutemwa and Mr and Mrs Lewis of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints to head the Humanitarian wing of their church based in Mutare ,joined on Monday this week.
At Mutemwa Leprosy Catholic Care Centre we were welcomed by Ms Guri AquinaMary the Mutemwa Administrator,nurses and residents.
Sister Ros and Elder Guy Peterson are in charge of the Humanitarian section of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints donated six tricycles. They raised funds from their own family members and friends in Utah in United States of America towards the purchase of the tricycles.
Mr Felish Farawo of Jairos Jiri demonstrated to residents how to operate the tricycles,service and ride. After the demonstration the residents were handed over their tricycles and service kit.
Ms Susan Bako one of the Mutemwa beneficiaries of the tricycles had a fructured left arm on the day of visit. It will be a while before she can ride her tricycle.
The tricycles are customized for each resident according to their disability. The patients and residents at Mutemwa are free of leprosy ,but are now living with physical disabilities which affect mainly lower limbs and hands,eye sight and skin. The tricycles are durable and can be used in any terrain. Sr.Ros bought six carrier bags for the tricycles and wrote names on them of residents. Residents had fun learning how to ride the tricycles. The tricycles help residents for mobilit and independence.They can now go as far as Mutoko centre for shopping.
