Conclusion of Amnesty for Unlicensed Firearms
Last year, an amnesty period was granted for individuals to surrender unlicensed firearms without facing criminal charges. During this period, 538 unregistered firearms and 260 rounds of ammunition were voluntarily handed over to the police.
However, with the conclusion of the amnesty, law enforcement agencies have initiated physical checks and verifications of guns and ammunition across the country.
The aim is to address concerns about rising crimes involving dangerous weapons, many of which have expired licenses or were stolen due to inadequate security measures.
