A Centenary-based suspected tobacco thief has finally been arrested after he was caught loading stolen tobacco bales offloaded from a moving truck.
Walter Nyanduwa (28) was dragged to Concession magistrates courts on Thursday on two counts of theft.He appeared before magistrate Charity Maunga who remanded him out of custody to August 28.
The state led by Munyaradzi Nengomasha alleged on August 2 Nyanduwa and his eight accomplices who are still at large hatched a plan to steal tobacco bales from a moving truck at Chidamba hills in Mazowe.
While the tobacco truck was moving at Chidamba hills the suspects boarded it and offloaded 19 bales of tobacco , 14 of which belonged to Nomore Kaguve while five belonged to Talent Nyikayaramba.
The suspects subsequently loaded their loot in a blue EFL truck registration number AFU 0589.Upon arrival at Christon bank the complainants were alerted by other motorists that their tobacco had been looted.
They made a U-turn and went to Chidamba hills where they found the suspects securing their loot in their Isuzu truck.
They blocked the truck and when the suspects sensed danger they boarded another gate away car and varnished leaving the Isuzu truck.
A police report was filed and the police identified Nyanduwa as the owner of the truck and arrested him.
