OUTGOING Bulawayo deputy mayor, Mlandu Ncube and four other councillors were granted an Alderman status after serving for two terms in the municipality. Councillors Ncube, Mzamo Dube Rodney, McDonald Tshuma, Pilate Moyo and Silas Chigora were elevated to the new status during a farewell luncheon held at the Large City Hall on Thursday.
Ncube paid tribute to Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister Judith Ncube and mayor Solomon Mguni after he was granted the new status.
“I served under four ministers of State and Judith Ncube ranks as one of the greatest of them all,” the outgoing deputy mayor said.
“Her astute and humble leadership is felt by all including myself. As for the mayor, we grew up together and did so many things together that I won’t mention.”
Mzilikazi ward 8 councillor Edwin Ndlovu, congratulated the new Aldermen.
“When people do a good job, it’s good to reward them,” Ndlovu said.
Meanwhile, ward councillors who passed away during their term in office as well as residents who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic were given last rites in a moment of silence.
