In a twitter post seen by Newsreportzim.com , Hopewell Chin’ono highlighted that Israel has banned Al-Jazeera from operating in the troubled Middle Eastern country.
This is no different from the way Robert Mugabe banned the BBC from operating in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The world continues to be tested to see if it is indeed principled or if it is just another Animal Farm where calls for press freedom only apply to regimes not liked by the West.
Last month, the Israeli parliament passed a law giving the government power to temporarily close foreign broadcasters considered a threat to national security during the war against Hamas.
The very thing that Robert Mugabe said when banning the BBC.
The West will be indeed toothless when another dictator bans a Western broadcaster considered to be a “national security” threat to that dictatorship.
As democracy di3s across the world, the countries that used to stand up for those values are now just bystanders because they don’t have the spine to tell off their allies who are doing bad things and devaluing the very mainstay of democracy: journalism and the media!

This came just two days after celebrating World Press Freedom Day, ironically. The media should be allowed to operate freely and Israel’s action should be strongly condemned.

We, Zimbabweans, need to ban ZBC, for good!
