Human rights abuses have increased in Zimbabwe; in October, at least 184 cases were reported nationwide, impacting around 2,000 people.
The increasing prevalence of vi0lence, intimidation, and prejudice, especially in the delivery of food aid and political repression, has alarmed the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP).
With 787 female victims—including three women with disabilities—women made up a sizable majority of the victims. There were 1,204 male casualties in all, including two disabled people.
According to the report, almost half (48.47%) of the recorded violations were committed by members of the ruling Zanu PF party, with the ZRP coming in second at 23.01%.
The politicization of food aid distribution, in which people were forced to back the ruling party in order to receive necessary aid, was another issue the research brought to light.
In one case, a male victim was intimidated by a village chief and a local council member for making a statement on the unequal distribution of food aid on a news channel that supported the Citizens Coalition for Change.
The right to decent housing was seriously questioned after thirty homes in Ridgeview, Belvedere, Harare, were demolished.
Thirty households were among the victims who were left homeless and vulnerable to the weather.
The ZPP has called for immediate action from the government and relevant institutions, urging the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violations.
