Albinism Awareness Campaign Rocks Masvingo

The Albino Charity Organization of Zimbabwe, led by Founder and Executive Director Ms. Loveness Mainato, joined forces with M Hugo Copota School for the Blind to commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day on June 13, 2025. Hundreds of people gathered at the school to show solidarity with people with albinism and promote awareness about the challenges they face .

The celebration featured a procession from Masvingo town to Zimuto, with school children, friends, and dignitaries marching together in support of people with albinism. The event showcased handcrafts made by children from M Hugo Copota School for the Blind, highlighting their talents and creativity .

Ms. Mainato emphasized the importance of love and support for children with albinism, citing the need for courage and self-esteem. Unfortunately, many people with albinism in Zimbabwean communities still face¹:
– Stigma and Discrimination*: unfair treatment, shunning, laughing, and mockery
– Marginalization*: inequality in employment and social life
– Emotional Problems*: interference in their social lives causing emotional distress

The Albino Charity Organization of Zimbabwe provides:
– Educational Assistance: support for children with albinism facing neglect, abandonment, and vulnerability
– Lotions and Emotional Support: essential items and counseling for people with albinism
– Project Initiatives: empowering people with albinism for self-survival and self-reliance

Ms. Mainato’s organization has been working tirelessly since its founding in 2009 to address the challenges faced by people with albinism. It’s time for the community to come together and stop the bad habits that hurt people with albinism. By promoting awareness and understanding, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all .
