Ahead of the SADC Extraordinary Summit, which will be headed by President Mnangagwa, heads of state and government, along with their officials, began arriving in Harare yesterday, and more are anticipated to arrive today.
Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini of Eswatini, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, the president of Zanzibar and chairman of the Revolutionary Council of Zanzibar-Tanzania, Angolan Defense Minister Joao Ernesto Santos, and Charles Errol Fonseka, the internal affairs minister of Seychelles, all arrived in the capital yesterday.
Presidents Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana, Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, and Paul Mashatile, the deputy president of South Africa, are all anticipated to arrive today.
Skills Audit Minister Paul Mavima greeted Mr. Dlamini at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport State Pavillion, while Pedro Neto, the ambassador of Angola to Zimbabwe, greeted Mr. Santos. Zimbabwe’s Attorney General, Mrs. Virginia Mabhiza, welcomed Dr. Mwinyi.
In preparation for the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State, the Ministerial Committee of the Organ Troika convened yesterday, while the SADC Council of Ministers convened on Monday.
Emerging regional concerns, such as regional peace and the bloc’s industrialization goal, will be examined at the Extraordinary Summit.
Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere stated yesterday at a post-Cabinet media conference that member states had confirmed their participation, setting the framework for a successful meeting of heads of state.
