Former ANC Treasurer-General, Dr. Mathews Phosa, warns that if the ANC enters into a coalition with the DA, it risks suffering more losses in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Dr. Phosa’s concern arises after South Africa’s governing African National Congress (ANC) spectacularly lost its parliamentary majority in last week’s election.
Since the elections, there have been talks of the ANC joining forces with the DA political party to form a coalition government, as required by the South African constitution.
However, political analysts worldwide suggest this could be politically risky, as the DA’s critics accuse it of trying to protect the economic privileges built up by the country’s white minority during apartheid—a charge the party denies.
