ZANU-PF Secretary General, Obert Mpofu, disclosed to state-owned media that the ANC had reached out to them to join their campaign team.
“We have been in touch with the South African ruling party. What is happening there is an internal issue which we are closely monitoring. I cannot rule out the fact that we can go and assist if they need assistance from us,” Mpofu was quoted as saying by The Herald.
Mpofu further expressed ZANU-PF’s hope that the elections would be conducted in South Africa per the Southern African Development Community (SADC) rules and protocols on elections. He extended his best wishes to the ANC for the upcoming elections.
“We wish them the best in their efforts to conduct their elections,” Mpofu was quoted by The source.
Once news spread about the ANC’s invitation to ZANU-PF to join their campaign team, South Africans flocked to social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to voice their displeasure. Here are some of the reactions:
@El123V:
And then the ANC wants you to believe they are going to fix the immigration crisis 🫣
@lawrencezulu:
The true progressive parties must start to make a move to their allies to be observers of this election as well. What is good for the gander is also good for the goose as well.
@zandy_thabethe:
Zanu pf? How low can the anc get? I suppose then the other parties
@KesterWaterloo:
Desperate times call for desperate measures…and all that.
@Thulaganyo_G:
The masters of rigging elections are about to help the anc execute one of their biggest heists since 1994
