Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) self-proclaimed interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu has unveiled the orchestrators behind the recent recalls that left the opposition party in disarray.
Tshabangu initiated the recall of 15 legislators and 17 councillors, claiming they were no longer party members.
There were unconfirmed whispers that the recalls were being masterminded by CCC president Nelson Chamisa’s inner circle and that Sengezo Tshabangu was just a tortoise on a lamppost. In an interview with Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) journalist Blessing Mhlanga on Heart and Soul TV, Sengezo Tshabangu confirmed the individuals behind the recalls.
Tshabangu revealed that the masterminds behind the recalls included not only Vice Presidents Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti but the entire 42-member National Executive.
“Not the two of them. The list is endless. We’ve got about 42 members of National Executive,” Tshabangu made the jaw-dropping revelation.
When further pressed by Mhlanga, Tshabangu confirmed that Ncube, Biti, and Chalton Hwende supported the recalls. He also confirmed that he sat down with the season politicians and they gave the green light for him to initiate the recalls.
Interestingly, Biti released a statement last month addressing rumours that he was behind the recalls. Biti, a key figure in the CCC, dismissed the claims, stating, “I would never betray the struggle for democracy.”
As a prominent figure in the CCC, Biti expressed his commitment to the struggle for democracy and disapproved of the recalls orchestrated by Tshabangu. He emphasized the unconstitutional nature of recalls, drawing on personal experiences in 2015 and 2021, highlighting the profound impact on families and constituents. Biti stated,
“I don’t believe in recalls. I have never been part of recalls. I will never be part of recalls.”
