Ebelloy Chikemura, a 25-year-old resident of Eastview Park in Mabvuku, was denied bail by the Harare High Court following serious allegations of armed r0bbery.
The court’s decision was profoundly swayed by the robust nature of the state’s case against him, which included compelling evidence and eyewitness testimonies placing him at the crime scene during the r0bbery incident.
On the evening of October 16, 2024, at approximately 1900 hours, Chikemura and his accomplices, whose identities remain unknown and are still at large, reportedly executed a meticulously planned r0bbery at a residence in Budiriro 4.
Armed with a pistol, Chikemura and his cohorts burst into the home where the complainant was present with his three children, causing immediate panic and fear.
One of the assailants brandished the gun in a menacing manner while aggressively demanding cash from the terrified complainant, who was unable to comply in the face of such overwhelming intimidation.
Meanwhile, another accomplice rifled through the home, snatching a knife from the kitchen table and making off with a Samsung A02 cell phone lying on the sofa.
The chaotic scene prompted the complainant to call for help, his desperate cries echoing through the neighborhood.
In an act of bravery coupled with the support of vigilant neighbors, the complainant gave chase, successfully capturing Chikemura while the other two r0bbers managed to escape into the night.
The court deemed Chikemura a flight risk, emphasizing that releasing him would severely compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation and the pursuit of justice.
The case continues to unfold as authorities intensify their efforts to locate the remaining accomplices and gather more evidence.
