During the course of the robbery, the criminals also took away a service pistol belonging to Butawo. Meanwhile, Leo Mutume, a Delta truck driver, caught sight of the commotion and attempted to intervene, but he was apprehended by the armed robbers. They managed to take US$43 from him before proceeding to the safe, which they forcefully opened.
To their dismay, the robbers discovered that the safe was empty. After their unsuccessful attempt, they hastily left the premises. Butawo and the security guards, Nyamangwanda and Mundagowa, eventually freed themselves and immediately contacted Augustine Gambiza, the plant manager, who promptly filed a police report.
The police are actively investigating the incident, and they urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in bringing the robbers to justice.
