Arsenal was among the clubs vying for Victor Osimhen’s signature during the summer transfer window, but they quickly lost interest due to Napoli’s steep demands.
The Italian club insisted on receiving Osimhen’s full £113 million release clause, which deterred Arsenal from pursuing the deal.
The Gunners were seeking to bolster their attack, with Gabriel Jesus’s injury woes and Kai Havertz’s inconsistent goal-scoring form. Osimhen, Alexander Isak, and Viktor Gyokeres were considered as potential targets, but Arsenal ultimately signed none.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Napoli’s refusal to budge on the release clause led to Arsenal’s withdrawal.
The club was hesitant to spend such a large sum in consecutive summers, having signed Declan Rice for £105 million last summer.
Interestingly, Arsenal had been tracking Osimhen since his impressive performance at the 2015 U17 World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot with a record 10 goals.
However, they opted to sign his teammate Kelechi Nwakali instead.
