Floodwaters have surged through many communities and villages in northern Sudan over the last two days, k!lling dozens and destroying hundreds of homes.
According to Sudanese Civil Defense spokeswoman Qureshi Hussein, 31 people have perished in the country’s north as a result of flooding. Yassin Abdul Wahab lost his home and had to create a makeshift shelter for his family.
“People are sleeping in the streets, and the situation is very bad,” he said.
“We are currently working on building a shelter for the family using materials from the collapsed house,” he added.
Heavy rain and flooding in Sudan this month have affected around 317,000 people, according to officials.
Of those affected, 118,000 people have been displaced, compounding one of the world’s worst displacement crises caused by the country’s protracted war.
