A dispute over electricity usage turned d3adly when Nella Kundai (27) fatally st@bbed her aunt, Dorothy Matongo (41), three times in the ch3st with a knife. Both Kundai and the dec3ased resided in the same house in Vengere suburb, Rusape.
Sources revealed that the disagreement arose from an unpaid electricity bill, with Kundai claiming inability to pay. Matongo, sympathising with her niece, paid US$5 to restore electricity for lighting purposes only, not for cooking.
Despite Matongo’s specific instructions, Kundai proceeded to use electricity for cooking, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a violent altercation.
Matongo sustained severe injuri3s and was rushed to Mutare, but tragically p@ssed away en route at Chipembere around 8 PM.
During a recent visit to Rusape, sources informed NewZimbabwe.com that timely intervention by law enforcement could have potentially saved Matongo’s life. However, previous reports of escalating tensions between Matongo and Kundai to the police were disregarded, with authorities insisting on the need for a crime to occur before intervening.
Prime, Matongo’s daughter, criticized the police for their inaction, stating that if they had responded promptly, her mother’s life might have been spared.
Prime herself sustained !njuries while trying to intervene in the altercation.
Community elder Eunice Muhwihwa expressed profound sadn3ss over the loss and urged the police to fulfill their duties effectively, emphasising the importance of timely intervention and conflict resolution in preventing such trag3dies.
Mai Muchena, a churchmate of Matongo, questioned the failure of the justice system to prevent such a tragedy.
Kundai is currently in custody, facing murd3r charges and is expected to appear in court soon.
Matongo is survived by three daughters and one son.”
