Authorities have initiated a search for a 67-year-old Australian tourist who went missing in the expansive rainforest of Victoria Falls National Park on Friday, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
No detailed information about the missing tourist’s identity has been disclosed at this time.
The spokesperson mentioned that a comprehensive team, including the police, sniffer dogs, drones, and trackers, is actively searching for the missing Australian tourist in Victoria Falls National Park.
Authorities emphasize the importance of continued vigilance from the tourism community and local residents. Any pertinent information that can aid in locating the individual is encouraged to be shared. Ensuring the safety and welfare of tourists, especially those exploring renowned destinations like Victoria Falls, remains a paramount concern for everyone in the tourism sector.
A spokesperson from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is currently providing consular assistance to the family of the Australian reported missing in Zimbabwe. Due to privacy obligations, no further comments can be provided at this stage.
Incidents of this nature are uncommon in Victoria Falls, a popular destination known for its spectacular water curtain cascading over 108 meters from the Zambezi River to the gorge below, creating a mist visible from kilometres away.
While such occurrences are infrequent in Victoria Falls, other national parks have witnessed similar cases. Notably, a German tourist who went missing in Zimbabwe’s Matusadona National Park, inhabited by diverse wildlife, was found alive and in good health three days after being reported missing in October last year.
