Authorities intervenes over Cowdray park water crisis

Councillor Ntando Ndlovu, representing Ward 28 in Cowdray Park, has taken swift action to address a severe water crisis that left residents without access to clean water for nearly two weeks.

This crisis, resulting from a burst pipe connecting Cowdray Park and the Magwegwe reservoir, exposed residents to waterborne diseases as they were forced to rely on unsafe sources like open wells along the pipeline.

For nearly two weeks, residents faced a dire situation, with disrupted water supply to the entire constituency, affecting families, schools, and businesses. Access to clean and safe drinking water became a significant challenge.

Councillor Ndlovu recognized the urgency of the situation and immediately engaged with the city council to find a solution.

In areas without council schools, he ensured that water bowers were made available to residents, allowing them to collect up to six buckets of water per day. In areas with city council schools equipped with boreholes, pipes were connected outside the school perimeter walls to provide residents access to water.

Speaking with a reporter, Councillor Ndlovu shared the latest developments in his efforts to alleviate the crisis. “I am happy to report that, as of Sunday night, we started to receive water in Ward 28,” he said.

“However, there are still challenges in other high-lying areas. We are working tirelessly to ensure the situation is eased for these areas as they await the reconnection of their water supply.”

He also highlighted his ongoing collaboration with Acting Mayor Ntombizodwa Khumalo, emphasizing the determination to provide relief to residents who have endured this prolonged water crisis.

Councillor Ntando Ndlovu’s unwavering commitment to his constituents serves as a testament to the power of dedicated public servants in times of crisis. His proactive approach and collaboration with local authorities offer hope to the residents of Cowdray Park, ensuring that clean, safe drinking water will soon flow once more in this community.

As efforts continue to address the water crisis and provide relief to affected residents, Councillor Ndlovu remains resolute in his commitment to ensuring the well-being and health of his constituents in Ward 28 Cowdray Park.
