A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Mbizo 18 , where a newly born baby was found floating in a sewage pool , in a suspected case of baby dumping.
The baby, who was naked, was discovered by children playing in the area on Tuesday morning and was already dead.
According to Ward 11 Councilor Nyika Panyika, one of the first people to arrive at the scene, the children found the baby in a bushy area and informed their parents, who then notified the authorities. The police were called to the scene and took the baby’s body to the mortuary.
This tragic incident is not an isolated case, as Kwekwe Assistant District Development Coordinator, Mr. Reason Machina, has reported that there have been four cases of baby dumping and child neglect in the district from April to date.
This is a worrying trend that is being addressed by the District Child Protection Committee.
The exact circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are still unknown, and an investigation is underway.
