In a shocking turn of events, Sipho Mazibuko, the founder of the Miss Rural Zimbabwe pageant, has been left heartbroken after being swindled out of US$5,600 by a young man she had taken under her wing. Courage Ngwenya, 25, allegedly stole the money from Mazibuko’s safe and vanished, leaving her devastated.
Mazibuko had grown close to Ngwenya over the past two years, treating him like a son. She had taken him in, mentored him, and even made him a model for her Miss Rural Zimbabwe magazine. But it all turned out to be a ruse. Ngwenya’s betrayal came to light when Mazibuko discovered her safe had been emptied one weekend.
In a dramatic turn of events, Mazibuko lured Ngwenya into the safe room, locked it from the outside, and called the police. Ngwenya was arrested while pacing like a trapped mouse. Mazibuko’s quick thinking and determination had finally brought the alleged thief to justice.
Mazibuko has since issued a warning to others not to let their generosity blind them. She realized too late that Ngwenya was a professional con artist who had manipulated her kind nature. “My daughter once told me, ‘Your heart is a refugee camp.’ She was right. Courage lived in that camp, plotted his heist, and then struck.”
Ngwenya now faces two charges under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act – theft and fraudulent conversion of trust property. He is out on bail, but Mazibuko’s determination to see justice served is unwavering. As the case unfolds, many are left wondering how someone so close to Mazibuko could betray her trust in such a shocking way.
