Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Dr. Walter Mzembi, has criticized the culture of begging from other countries and called for self-dependence.
Newsreportzim.com has extracted Mzembi’s X (formerly known as twitter) post where shared the following:
“The culture of going around the world tichipemha must come to a stop. Understandably its a liberation war culture that saw us going around the world seeking solidarity support for the liberation struggle so we would ask for anything from cigarettes , shoes , jeans , blankets , jackets to arms of war , literally anything we asked for and received generously.”
“But this was war time when we didn’t have a country to run endowed so generously with so much resources . 44 years later our pitch to liberation allies should change from begging , perennial gratitude which weakens our case to sovereign equals vane zvinhu zvavo seeking win win partnerships , joint ventures, equity and capital leveraging our resources and human capital.”
“Sovereign equals seeking markets for what they produce . We are no longer anyone ‘s basket case . Kwete kuti huyai muzoticherera , isu hatina misana yekuchera?”
“Our conduct and presentations on foreign trips impinges on our national pride , import and dignity as a people including astonishingly huge delegations of hundreds of hangers on apa we are begging!”
“Hondo yakapera maComrades no more solidarity sympathy but equal win win partnerships!”
