A 64-year-old man from Zezani village was brought before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court, facing serious charges of physically @busing his wife.
National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), released details of the events leading to the man’s conviction that took place on October 5, 2024.
Early that morning, at around 8:00 AM, the accused returned home after attending a memorial service.
Perhaps in a hurry or simply not in the best of moods, he asked his 58-year-old wife, who is the complainant in this case, to prepare breakfast for him.
After making this request, he decided to head to the Zezani Business Center for a short while, presumably to pass the time.
However, upon returning home, the situation took a d!sturbing turn.
The husband entered the house and immediately began yelling at his wife, @ccusing her of purposely delaying the breakfast.
Unfortunately, instead of addressing the issue calmly or discussing his frustrations, the @ccused allowed his anger to spiral out of control.
In a sh0cking display of v!olence, he phys!cally @ttacked his wife with a stick, striking her repeatedly across her body.
The situation escalated further when he picked up a stone and struck her on the head, inflicting severe injur!es that left her with an open wound and noticeable swelling.
This brutal act of aggression highlighted a pattern of domestic abu3e that is all too common in many households.
Following the violent incident, the wife reported the @ssault to the authorities, leading to the man’s arr3st and subsequent court appearance.
In light of the evidence presented and the nature of the crime, the court found him gu!lty of the charges brought against him.
As result, the husband was sentenced to a total of 24 months in pr!son. However, 8 months of this sentence were suspended, meaning he will only serve 16 months in confinement.
