Econet, a leading telecommunications company, has issued a scam alert to its customers, warning them to be cautious of vendors selling used scratch cards.
According to the alert, some unscrupulous vendors have been found selling used recharge cards to unsuspecting customers. These cards may appear new, but they have already been used, making them worthless to the buyer.
Econet has provided additional guidelines to help customers protect themselves from used recharge card scams. To ensure a safe and secure transaction, Econet encourages customers to follow these steps:
Recharge your airtime in the presence of your vendor: By doing so, you can verify that the card is legitimate and unused before completing the purchase.
Check for watermarks: Look for the watermark on the card that says ‘DO NOT SCRATCH WITH A SHARP OBJECT’ or ‘SCRATCH OFF THE PANEL TO REVEAL THE SUBSCRIPTION KEY.’ These watermarks indicate that the card is new and unused.
Report suspicious activity: If you suspect that you’ve encountered a scam or purchased a used recharge card, report the incident to your nearest police station or call 111 to alert Econet.
