United States President Joe Biden has signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy which is aimed at reinforcing Ukraine’s defenses against Russia.
The agreement is also set to also bring Ukraine a step closer to their full NATO membership.
“Our goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s credible defense and deterrence capabilities for the long term,” Biden said at a joint news conference with Zelenskiy.
However, US senator for Kentucky, Rand Paul criticised Biden’s move to sign the agreement as an act of subjecting Americans to unending war and involvement in Ukrainian conflicts.
He wrote,” by supporting Ukraine’s NATO membership, he commits future US service members to Ukraine’s conflicts. It’s time to put America 1st, seek diplomatic solutions, and protect our people and economy”.
Some social critics have also viewed this as an uncostitutional treaty while others have praised its efforts highlighting that America’s security is dependent on the security of the free world of which Ukraine is a part of.
