THE Bindura Arts Festival lit up the mining town of Bindura through its musical showcase that blended budding rural musicians with some of the country’s top-performing artists.
The Arts and Culture in Action project being implemented by the Bindura Arts Festival Foundation (BAFF) reached a climax on Friday as newly identified musicians from rural areas got to perform on the big stage.
10-year-old Sam Jaji from More Farm in Shamva and Mbire-based Roman were the curtain raisers for the star-studded show.
Sungura star Sulumani Chimbetu and Superstar Jah Prayzah gave polished performances much to the delight of revellers.
BAFF Director Mr Umtali Saidi described the show as a rich platform for entertaining people as well as nurturing upcoming artists.
“The main purpose of this festival was to give a platform to local artistes or artistes we scouted from two marginalised districts Mbire and Shamva to give them a platform where they can share their talent on a much bigger platform to perform alongside much-established artists. As you can see, Jah Prayzah performed, Killer T performed, Sulumani is performing,” he said.
Mr Saidi said the initiative made possible by the Culture Fund under the Creative Action 2 project aims to capacitate artists to thrive through their art.
