A 35-YEAR-OLD man from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of r_pe and robbery.
Thabani Shongwe appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Collet Ncube.
Shongwe was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 20 November.
Allegations against Shongwe are that sometime in August this year he approached the victim whose name is being withheld for legal reasons, while she was on her way to work and started walking with her.
According to reports, Shongwe praised the vicvtim for being a working woman before slapping and dragging her behind Cowdray Park Secondary School where he threatened her with a knife if she made any noise.
In a bid to continue buying her silence he also threatened to cut her private parts saying he was going to sell it to South Africans as it was his business.
He then forced her to remove her clothes and forcibly had s#xu_l intercourse with her once.
After that he took her Vodafone phone valued at US$20 and went away.
The victim managed to make it to work where she told her colleague that she had been robbed.
Her workmate escorted her home as she had a swollen face.
It is reported that on 4 November, the victim came across Shongwe and positively identified him before she reported the matter to the police leading to the alleged r_pist’s arrest.
