On 22 April, one Denis Mahachi was looking for a lawyer at the Harare Magistrates’ Court to help his brother get bail.He then met the suspect,Wesley Jena who is 38-years at the court who lied that he was a lawyer at Jena and Associates when he was just a messenger.
The complainant who was desperate to get his brother bail confronted the suspect and paid $300 on the 24th of April and was given any receipt.It is alleged that he was charged $500 overal but was able to paid $300.
When Dennis Mahachi appeared before the court,the suspect remained seated and this send an alarm to the complainant.
When Wesley Tafara Jena (39) was arraigned before the Harare Magistrate’s court facing charges of contravening the Legal Practitioner Act.
Jena allegedly misinterpreted to the complainant that he was a legal practitioner on the 22nd of April 2024 .Dennis Mahachi who was desperately looking for legal representation for his brother Debate Mahachi to get bail, engaged the accused person at Harare Magistrate Court and hired him to represent his brother.The accused person who claimed to be a lawyer from Jena and Associates when he was just a messanger at the law film charged him$500.He paid him $300 on the 24th of April 2024 and was not issued with a receipt.
When Debate Mahachi appeared for bail at the said court ,the @ccused person remained seated instead of presenting himself as Mahachi’s legal practioner.That pigued complainant’s interest causing him to inquire;nevertheless,the accused person failed present his certificate of practice as a lawyer.
The complainant lost USD$300 and nothing was recovered.
The accused person will be back in court today for bail application.
