Brazil has been designated as the host nation for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, marking the inaugural occurrence of the tournament in South America.
This decision comes after Brazil’s previous hosting of the men’s event in 1950 and 2014.
The selection process involved a vote by FIFA’s 211 members, with Brazil securing 119 votes compared to a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany, which garnered 78 votes.
Historically, such determinations were made by the FIFA Council, the governing body’s decision-making committee.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his congratulations to Brazil, stating, “Congratulations to Brazil. We will have the best World Cup in Brazil.”
He also extended gratitude to the joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany, acknowledging their contributions.
Scheduled to unfold from June 24 to July 25, 2027, the tournament will span ten host cities across Brazil.
