An earthquake was reported near Johannesburg in Gauteng on Tuesday evening.
BREAKING: EARTHQUAKE REPORTED NOW IN GAUTENG
According to Volcano Discovery, a light magnitude 3.2 earthquake hit 8.7 km away from Westonaria, Gauteng, on Tuesday evening.
“The quake had a very shallow depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) and was felt widely in the area.”
Volcano Discovery said.
THE EARTHQUAKE WAS FELT WIDELY IN THE AREA
It furthermore said the exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
“Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Maile (pop. 10,000) located 40 km from the epicenter, and Rustenburg (pop. 124,100) 50 km away. The quake was probably not felt in Koster (pop. 12,100, 57 km away) and Zeerust (pop. 17,700, 84 km away).”
