Kufakwevantu Chirigo, a 37-year-old resident of Chipinge, has recently been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court for his heinous act of attempted m_rder against his sister.
The incident, which unfolded during a heated domestic dispute while Chirigo was intoxicated, escalated when he verbally ass@ulted his sister and aggressively demanded that she return to her marital home along with her children.
In a fit of rage, he brutally att@cked her using a spanner, inflicting multiple inj_ries on her hands.
Fearing for her safety, the victim managed to escape and sought refuge by locking herself in one of the nearby huts.
However, Chirigo was undeterred; he broke the window of the hut in a frantic attempt to reach her.
When she courageously unlocked the door to flee, he pursued her and vi0lently struck her on the neck.
Tragically, in the chaos of the att_ck, he also seriously wounded her 18-month-old infant, who was strapped to her back, with a machete, resulting in the child’s de@th.
Despite the severity of his actions, Chirigo continued his assa_lt on his sister, indiscriminately striking her with the machete, although she managed to defend herself to some extent and sustained only cuts on her wrists.
The court’s decision to impose a 10-year prison sentence reflects the seriousness of his attempted m_rder charge, but it is essential to note that he has yet to stand trial for the more grave allegation of murdering the infant, which will take place in the High Court.
