A tr@gic incident unfolded in Chikanga on Wednesday morning when a d!spute among three brothers led to the d3ath of one of them.
What began as an attempt to “discipline” their 36-year-old brother, Prince Dzotsera, quickly escalated into a d3adly confrontation.
The Manica Post has it that Emmanuel (32) and Peter (40) Dzotsera now face murd3r charges following the fatal altercation with Prince.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting spokesperson for the Manicaland provincial police, provided details on the brut@l incident.
“The conflict initiated around 3 a.m. and lasted until dawn, culminating in Prince’s d3ath. Mr. David Muenzani, a tenant at the Dzotsera residence, tried to intervene but was unable to stop the fight,” reported Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
“He suggested they address their issues as a family and returned to his room. Later, around 5 a.m., their mother approached Mr. Muenzani, informing him that Prince had d!ed.”
When journalists visited the scene later that morning, an unsettling quiet enveloped the once-bustling Chikanga neighborhood.
Onlookers congregated outside the house shortly after police had transported Prince’s body to the mortuary. A somber mood prevailed, with witnesses noting the destruction, including a shattered television, broken glass, and scattered household items, indicative of the violence that occurred.
Witnesses described a night marred by increasing fury and cries for help, fueled by longstanding frustrations over Prince’s alleged disrespect towards their mother. Mr. Muenzani recounted the disturbing events of that night.
“We were asleep when the altercation began around 3 a.m. The noise of shouting and items being hurled woke us up. I heard Emmanuel and Peter accusing Prince of mistreating their mother, prompting me to step in,” he said.
However, the brothers dismissed his intervention, insisting it was a private matter. “They claimed they had the right to discipline their brother. I tried to reason with them, but they wouldn’t listen, so I retreated to my room. Their mother also tried to intervene, but Peter brushed her off, stating they were looking out for her.”

After a brief pause, the fighting resumed around 5 a.m. “My wife urged me not to go outside again, warning it could be dangerous. We held out hope they would work things out. Moments later, their mother came to our window in tears, banging on it, and informed us that Prince had d!ed,” he recounted.
When Mr. Muenzani rushed outside, he encountered the grim scene that followed the violence. “By that time, a crowd had gathered, and Prince’s body was lying on the ground, covered with a blanket,” he said.
Despite eight families living in the Dzotsera home, Mr. Muenzani was the only neighbor who attempted to intervene, as others were afraid of retribution from the brothers, who had a reputation for violence. “Prince frequently mistreated their mother. Peter lived in Bulawayo, while Emmanuel rented elsewhere after being expelled by Prince. They aimed to confront him about his actions, but unfortunately, the situation escalated to murd3r,” he explained.
Neighbors painted a picture of Prince as a problematic individual in the community, known for theft and v!olence. Ms. Charity Katsande, a local resident, acknowledged Prince’s flaws but condemned his brothers’ actions. “He had his issues, but no one deserves to die like that. It’s heart-wrenching, especially for their mother, who they were trying to protect,” she remarked.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka confirmed that Emmanuel and Peter Dzotsera are currently in police custody as investigations continue, leading toward their eventual court appearance.
